In April, I will be heading to Germany, for my very first ever overseas trip and one of the places I wish to visit is Dachau. When someone was informed about that, she stated, "You could have picked a happier scenic site to visit." No, I don't think so. While I will see some beautiful sites in Germany, I still want to see the history. More than that, I want to remember the innocent lives that were lost, to see what they went through and to remember for the rest of my life, the Holocaust.

Visited Dachau for the very first time . never ever did I see or experienced being in any Concentration camp in person . It was very well presented and I was very grateful to have been able to have visited and experienced the native Germany in a way that had had not done when I used to ones live there some 30 years ago . It was a visit well worth and very educational . I recomend it to everyone , and not to miss the old beautyful town that goes with it . A sad , but yet lovely old Town too . Thank you Dachau .

My neighbor has a most wonderful book printed and written by his own battalion and given to every serviceman in this group, all photos taken by these men, and the booklet printed complete with stories about the concentration camp at Dachau. I must say, that there is nothing that ever moved my soul as much as looking at this book, it is an original..and he has had it in his possession for all these years. I, too, shall NEVER FORGET...especially after looking at his book that is HIS ORIGINAL COPY, COMPLETE WITH PICTURES OF THE BOXCARS, THE CAMPS, THE BODIES.......AND THE MOST GRAPHIC AND MOVING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFETIME.........! Truly enjoyed your site, as I have taken an interest in this myself and have printed out several items from your site for my own use. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ENLIGHTENING ME.... As a member of the 42nd "Rainbow" Infantry Division, I was at Dachau on that fateful day, April 29th, 1945, when the Concentration Camp was opened. I was a member of the 222nd Infantry Regiment's Anti-Tank Company. It was all too evident just how cruel men could be. The horror of that day will be with me forever. Now, in my 75th year, I cannot even imagine what led the Nazi's to perpetrate this horror on their fellow man!

People normally try not to see the bad in things or events so naturally they turn the other way. What if the United States were to have stopped this bloody-horrid massacre before too many lives were taken. (But when is too many lives?) It is bad enough that a single life had to be taken due to his/her faith... but it is worse to deny the fact that innocent people had to die because we did not want to get involved. If this was true the United States should ban ALL goverment authority(police...)back then and ignore the problems and events around them!!!

I now can understand why there is so much hatred in our world today, the so called leaders of this world turned their backs or closed their eyes to these atrocities. It is no wonder why there is so much division, crimes against different cultures in the world, I would like to think that if it were me I would rather they drop an ICBM on top of my head rather than endure the tortures that I've read about. In an instance such as this, a human being or animal would welcome death, either by being shot, hung, electricuted or by their own hands! History such as this should alert everyone, that this is something that can never be allowed to happen again! I look at the Klu Klux Klan, the so called skin heads,(modern day NAZIS') and sometimes the Chicago police (Modern day GESTAPOS') and I immediately want to draw arms, because if this can happen once it can surely happen again and I would be the first to die for I will never allow myself to be treated so horribly, not without contemplating first taking my own life and trying to take the life of some person in command first. I would rather die standing than on my knees!

My grandfather was a pow at dachau during the war in germany. His name was Paul Alexander Jung, he was a business man in Glatz at the time. Since he did not side with Hitler they put him in the camp. This is what my father has always told me. I am just trying to find out whatever I can for my children about the roots of the family. I want to keep the family history known and alive here, since my father is the only one who left Germany for the USA.

I visited Dachau in Oct 1965 with my husband and friends. We were all stationed in Germany at the time. When we left there we were silent for a long time. We had read about the camps, but seeing was beleiving. I really don't think a lot of people realize how unspeakable this place was. The human suffering was unbeleivable. I pray to God this never ever happens again. And all the Nazi SS who were involved are suffering twice as much in Hell.

In 1974 I visited Dachau while visiting with my sister in Germany. I have never forgotten what I saw there. It made a lasting impression on an 18 year old and I have told my children about it. It is up to us to rid this world of the hatered and discrimnation that led to the concentration camps.

My heart aches for the poor men, women and children who lost their lives to such causes as Hitlers orders. I pray for all their souls and know God is with them today. I can not believe that any creation of God could do such things to another creation of God as was done to the Jewish population. Those who caused the pain and death will pay on the great judgement day when they stand befor God and are judged for what they did. Then they will BURN as the burned.Bitter tears burn my eyes as I look and read the horrifing things these people endured for one imortal person.

Lest we forget the terrible past. Moving visit to man's inglorious past. How could 'we' have done all this? Though even God cannot change history, we can atleast learn that we should not create such history that our children will be ashamed to remember it.

In 1945 in Tarcento,Italy I was a gaurd in our P.O.W.camp of approximately 250 Germans. These prisoners were treated very good, some had chores but they were never abused. Some of them spoke English and seemed to get along well.I wish now that I got some of their names.I visited the Dauchau camp in 1972 and wondered if any of the prisoners that I met had visited there and what their thoughts were?

I will be visiting Germany (Munich and Augsburg) on the 22 of November. I have very limited time but I teach in the United States and always cover the Diary of Anne Frank. I am very interested in visiting Dachau. My only question is the way to get their. We are staying at the Parkhotel in AUgsburg . Should I take a train (is it possible) or should I rent a car. Again I have limited time.

I have learned about they concentration camps and WWII in school, and have seen slides of Dachua in my art class. My teacher has explained to us how horrid her visit was to Dachua. The way she expained it had such an impact on me, I felt so bad for the people who had to suffer during that time. Now I am writing a reserch paper on world history, and have decided to write my paper on WWII, and the concentration camps. This was an amazing web site to journey through.
